Thanksgiving 2021

We stayed in California for this one and didn’t brave the airport. I am glad we stuck around as the weather was wonderful and so was the company. Some of our friends were also in town so we had 4 others over and made a dinner reservation at our dining table for 6.

Elise and I were the hosts so we put together some dishes. In this case we made:

  • Mashed potatoes, standard

  • Mashed potatoes, vegan

  • Carrot soup

  • Turkey breast, seasoned from the store

  • Turkey breast, seasoned by Elise

  • Appetizer platter

Everything came together smoothly and somewhat ahead of schedule. Our friends covered all the other items and the meal was just delightful.

It can’t go without mentioning the drinks. We began the evening with a nice glass of Champagne. Following that, with dinner we shared some red wine. There was a bottle that came with a glass cork which I had never seen before. After wine time, we moved onto the gin drinks. At the grocery store they were having a sale so we got an enormous bottle for the price of a standard bottle. Kurt and I had some dirty martinis while others sipped some G&Ts.

With all the gin, I am happy to report that I only have a mild headache today. The night went so well and I now have a much better grasp on the appeal of hosting. I have the feeling of joy and satisfaction from a party well done!
